Is the Market for Refurbished Computers Going Away?

At last year's International Computer Refurbisher Summit (ICRS), an annual award was created in honor of Techsoup Global Recycling & Reuse Director Jim Lynch "for his outstanding support of ICRS over the past 6 years ... this great group of refurbishers wouldn’t be what it is today without his tireless efforts..."

This year the Jim Lynch Award for Lifetime Achievement in the field of computer refurbishment goes to Frances Fawcett who started the Microsoft Authorized Refurbisher Program in 2000, and Pat Furr of Computers for Classrooms in Chico California, who has mentored countless refurbishers over the years and remains one the nonprofit refurbishment field's main volunteer tech support people.

Here is Jim's update of a TechSoup article we posted to TechSoup.org in September 2009. During those two years, not only has the used computer market been in question, but also there has been major buzz in the IT press about whether or not we're entering a “post-PC” era.
