Please see attached guidelines for building PR campaigns and templates.
Listed below are types of press events that some partners have done in the program. Partners please add your comments and best practices to this page:
1. Press announcement only: press release (coordinated with donor partners) + follow – up to journalists
2. Press announcement plus additional activities over a week period (for example):
a. Day 1: release of press release with follow-up to targeted journalists (combined planning with local donor partner resources as appropriate)
b. Day 2-3: release announcement/newsletter distribution to NGO-focused newsletters, etc.
c. Day 4-5: trainings/meetings with select NGO networks to discuss the program and educate on how they can leverage program in their network
3. press breakfast: press release plus breakfast meeting with journalists (done in conjunction with donor partners)
4. Larger event with press: coordinated around a special guest (MS leadership for example) plus speakers which can potentially include other donor partners, local govt, PNGO leadership, TechSoup speaker/video. Invite NGO community. Note: Technosite actually had the business and press presentation first and then invited the NGO community during the second portion of the day. Ireland and Hong Kong combined audiences in one event. India focused on press and business sector.
5. If the timing isn't right for more than an initial announcement, do a press release/newsletter announcement to get some information about the program publicized and then tie a larger event to a milestone that occurs later (for example: 100th order or special guest from government or business sector)
IMPORTANT: Please alert your local Donor contact and TechSoup when you are planning a press event or when you get inquiries. In addition, please let us know if you would like planning assistance. Also, during planning, consider brainstorming with one of your Partner NGO colleagues or suggest it as a Partner NGO meeting topic; there is a wealth of knowledge and experience in this community.
